Summertime is just around the corner and all we want to do is lay by the pool and splash around in salty oceans...but, with our extensions in of course.

So, what does that extra UV time and chlorine-filled water mean for your extensions?...

The good news is, YES, you can still hang on your beach vacation and swim in the water...BUT, you'll need to give some extra love and attention to your hair to maintain the integrity of your extensions.

Here are our top 5 simple tips to help your long locks thrive through all your summer activities, PLUS, a discount code from Virtue Labs for our favorite Summer must-haves!

It's ok to allow yourself a bit of summer swimming time, but, to avoid extra dryness, damage, and even discoloration to your hair, RINSE BEFORE YOU SWIM! Take the time to prep your hair before taking a swim by rinsing your hair with water to reduce the absorption of chlorine and salt. Dry hair acts like a sponge, so taking a dip without the extra moisture will cause to you absorb an excess of the bad stuff that can damage your hair and extensions. Avoid soaking your hair too much when swimming, as it can loosen the integrity of the bonds.

Immediately after swimming, rinse through your hair with water to limit further damage and wash with VIRTUE Purifying Shampoo to remove all impurities and add back in that dose of moisture.

Rough dry the hair at the bonds and allow the rest of the length of the hair to air-dry.

VIRTUE Recovery Conditioner

One of the biggest ways to avoid damage to your extensions and hair is to keep it properly brushes and free of tangles. When swimming and cruising around with the wind in your hair, make sure to braid your hair or keep it in a low bun to avoid a mess of tangles that will pull at the bonds when brushed and reduce the life the extensions.

Also, be sure to use a proper brush for extensions and brushing over the application site. Your hair is at its' weakest point when it's wet, so using a brush that is meant for extensions is key to maintaining the strength of your hair and your extensions.

Just as overexposure to the sun is damaging to our skin, the same can be said for our hair. Sun damage to your hair presents itself as dry and brittle, broken or split ends, frizziness, and discoloration. The sun’s UV rays act similar to bleach on the hair. Bleach mixes with the melanin in hair and strips the color, damages the hair’s cuticle and coveted keratin protein.

Opt for a cute hat to keep your hair and extensions protected for excessive sun exposure.

Here are our favorite summer hats that will make you WANT to wear.

Gigi Pip Summer Hats

Love Street Hats

VIRTUE Moisture Defining Whip (is great on wet or dry hair to add back in moisture and extend 2nd (or 3rd or 4th ha) day styling)

Just as we use a face mask once a week, we should be using a hair mask once a week!...especially in the summer time. During Summer months when your hair is generally taking on much more heat damage, experiencing dryness from summer swimming, and switching between different types of weather when traveling, it's important to give that extra spa-time to your hair by applying an at-home deep conditioning treatment. Staying dedicated to using a restorative treatment weekly or bi-weekly will add in that extra moisture that you're lacking and prevent further breakage, while leaving you with lush, shiny locks.

VIRTUE Restorative Treatment

We are big believers in not washing your hair everyday AND not heat styling your hair everyday. But, we still want our hair styled everyday and looking fab, so we're not just gonna tell you not to use heat, but that you can still give your hair and extensions a style with these amazing products on those days you skip the hot tools.

-How did you get started in the Hair industry?

Being the oldest of seven girl cousins, I have been “playing” hair stylist for as far back as I can remember. Doing hair got more serious as I grew older, by the time I was in high school it seemed I was doing my friends' and families' hair for every major life occasion. Whether it was working to get my cousin’s hair styled just right for her first middle school dance, or the perfectly teased ponytail for my little sister's high school cheer tryouts, I loved being able to boost these girls confidence through their hair style. Going to hair school, I had only styled hair, never cut or colored. It was intimidating in the beginning, but, I grew to love it! To this day, I still get the most satisfaction from helping other women feel extra beautiful for the life events that matter most to them. There is not a better feeling than knowing that I helped make my clients feel better about their appearance and have given them a boost of confidence as they leave my salon.

-What are your 3 must-have hair products?

1) Iles Formula Finishing Serum: I use this product every time before I blow dry my hair. One of the most important things about maintaining extensions is taking care of them and using the right products to keep the hair soft and in good condition. This product keeps my extensions and real hair feeling lush and silky 24/7.

2) Moroccan Oil Texture Spray: l alternate using hair spray with this texture spray when styling. I love using the Moroccan Oil Texture Spray because it is not too chalky or heavy for my clients' hair, it consistently helps me achieve the perfect tussled look without feeling or looking dirty.

3) Oribé Dry Shampoo: We all have those days when our busy schedule make it impossible to find the time to wash, blow dry and style our hair. Oribé is my go-to dry shampoo, not only does it smell incredible but it is the only dry shampoo I have found that I truly love!

-If you could have dinner with one person living or deceased, who

would it be?

Growing up the daughter of a country western singer / songwriter, I’d have to pick either Loretta Lynn or Dolly Parton. To avoid making this tough decision I am just going to say it’s a tie, I am inviting both of these fabulous ladies to my dinner!

-What is your current favorite hair trend?

I’m currently super into styling braids! I will always love seeing my clients' reaction when they are happy with their cut or color, but, I feel like doing a braid, especially after a color service, allows me to be super creative and give my clients something different when they’re leaving my salon.

-If you could style one celebrity's hair, who would it be?

Oh, without a doubt I’d pick Kacey Musgraves. Not only do I admire her as an artist, but she seems to have such a fun personality, a great outlook on life, and a beautiful head of hair! We would have a DAY in the salon if I got to style her hair- champagne for everyone on the house!

-Describe a typical day-in-your life?

I am at the salon most days, typically seeing about 6-8 clients per day. I try to make time nearly every day to work out: I have recently been into taking pilates classes as a way to tone up and stay in shape. The best part of my day, everyday, is the time I spend with my husband and our two fur babies. Nathan and I were married a year and a half ago, we are so enjoying the married life and loving this season of growing together as a new-ish married couple.

-What is the one habit everyone can do to get better/healthier hair?

I am always preaching to my clients to add more moisture to their hair, I don’t think most people realize how important that step in the hair care process really is. My most important recommendation is to use some kind of leave-in cream to protect their hair before they blow dry or style with any sort of heat.

-Do you have any inspiring female role models or mentors?

This question is impossible to answer because I have so many! As I stylist, I think one of the most important things you can do is to never stop learning. Education is so important and we can constantly learn so much from one another. I am inspired everyday by the strong woman in my community, even by just logging into Instagram and seeing post from my fellow stylists, I feel encouraged to try something new. If I had to narrow it down to one main role model it would have be my mom, she’s not in the hair industry but the life lessons I have learned from her are too many to count. She’s the hardest working, most selfless person I know, qualities like that translate to any industry and can inspire us all to strive everyday to be a little better than the day before.

-Do you have any tips for artists starting out in the industry?

Be open to learning new things, don’t get stuck in your ways, and always keep your clients happy. It is so important to retain your clients. They keep coming back to your salon by cultivating genuine relationships with them, being timely, pampering them, and producing quality work.

-What do you do to feel more inspired?

Of course Instagram and Pinterest keep me constantly wanting to better myself and try new things. I also regularly attended classes and conventions to stay up-to-date on the latest techniques. Aside from that, I try to keep my salon my “happy place.” Everyday when I pull up to my salon, it doesn’t feel like I just got to work, it feels like I arrived at my second home. Jamming out to whatever music is matching my mood that day gets me in my zone so that I can just focus on doing hair!

-What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

“Be the BEST you can be!”

-What has been your proudest moment in the industry?

This year has been such an awesome year for me personally. I met many of the goals I had set for myself awhile back and truly exceeded my own expectations of where I thought I would be in the Hair Industry when I started. Taking a class with Bombshell really was a huge turning point for me, it opened so many doors and connected me with clients who likely would not have known anything about me if it were not for Bombshell. I still have a long way to go and really the possibilities of where this industry will take me are endless.

-What would be your career path in another life?

I think I could have been a wedding planner. I have always had a passion for weddings: growing up as a little girl you dream of that day. After planning my own wedding I realized how much I enjoyed it, even though it was stressful at times, it was a year I will never forget.

-What is your favorite Bombshell Extension Co. product?

For sure /60!!! I love the blend and having the rooted option just took to another level!

March 18, 2019 — Bombshell Extension Co

Creating a solid client base can sometimes feel overwhelming. We've learned that a huge part of growth in your business is working with like-minded individuals and us-with-you, and you-with-us; ) As stylists ourselves, we love providing the highest quality extensions to other Stylists, knowing that we fully stand by our product and would choose to use it on ourselves and our closest friends.

We love seeing all of your amazing work using our extensions and we want to do what we can to help you gain more clients through using Bombshell Extensions!

Here are 5 simple things you can do right now to grow your client base using Bombshell Extensions:

1: Promote that you install Extensions and that you use @bombshellextensions

First impressions are everything. Along with a beautiful feed of your work and some extension before/afters, in your text, tell your audience that you offer extensions: what kind, and other options. If you don't write out that you do Extensions, some people may not know to ask for that as an option. Add specific text in your bio and/or website to get it into the readers' mind that Extensions are part of your forte'.

Add a line in your Instagram bio like one of the following: (feel free to copy and paste any of these or create your own)

-"Extensions Specialist using @bombshellextensions"

-"Hair Extensions: using @bombshellextensions -"Certified Stylist with @bombshellextensions" (more on getting certified below)

Also, we have GIFS for your IG stories! Search in the sticker tab to use any of your custom Bombshell GIFS!

2. Use Bombshell Extension Co's free educational information:

We've found that it's so important to give your client a lot of knowledge and take-home information before and after you install their extensions. If it's a virgin extension client, there can be alot of questions and hesitation with a new hairstyle; including hair that's not your own; ) Offering the client alot of information in the beginning and educating them on how-not-scary it is to take care of your extension hair at home is key to keeping them as a returning client and recommending you to their friends. Use the tab on your website: Education-Free Downloads to use any of this info we've put together for you so all you have to do is send the client this link, or download these ready-to-print files to give them a hard copy and capture client signatures!

3. Promote and tag @bombshellextensions in your IG stories and posts, so we can repost you:

We LOVE seeing our Stylist customers using Bombshell hair and sharing images of their hair transformations. The more you tag us and show us your work, the more we can repost you and show it to all of our audience too; ). A couple tips in getting reposted with us:

4. Pin your images to Pinterest & we will repin them:

In our opinion, Pinterest is still one of our fav guilty-pleasures. We love scrolling over images of all the places we want to travel, home decor we want to buy, beauty routines we want to implement, AND of course, the hair we want to have next! Pinterest is still a huge source of traffic for stylists posting images of their work, which in turn, are seen by a potential client wanting 'that exact cut' or 'that exact color'.

The more consistently you post to Pinterest and tag @bombshellextensions, the more we can repin your images to our added audience, and more your work will live on the inter-webs; )

**QUICK PIN TIP: Don't stress about having to double upload all your images to Instagram and then to Pinterest, all you have to do is:

It sounds like a lot of steps, but once you do it one time, it really is so easy and will help you getting your work in front of more people!

5. Take a Bombshell Education Course.

Truly the best way to ensure that you're getting all you can out of Bombshell Extensions and allowing us to promote you as much as possible, is by taking one of our Bombshell Education Courses.

We offer Education Courses monthly, in different areas of the US. In order to be listed on our website, under our Stylist Locator tab, you must attend a Bombshell Education Course and become certified. We offer Hands-On and Demo Courses that will give you Bombshell Certification at the end of the course and instantly add our stamp of approval as an official Bombshell Extensions Certified Stylist.

New Year, NEW hair! We figured there's no better resolution to add to the list of goals than to make that beautiful mane happen!...of course, Bombshell hair ALWAYS helps to add some love too;) Dedicating some time to the health of your hair isn't as hard as you may think! We put together some tips from our Bombshell Stylists of some simple things you can commit to in 2019 to have healthier hair and better care for your Bombshell Extensions!

"I like to think of hair masks as routine maintenance for your hair. Just like we take care of maintenance on other things, such as our cars, homes, etc., your hair deserves that same regular love and care. I tell my clients that if they can find the opportunity to put on a mask while in the shower or at the salon at least once a month, they’ll never be sorry they did it and your hair will thank you!

My favorite masks are:

Both of these masks help to restore the hair's shine and elasticity, while building protein back into the hair from within the hair strain itself."

"I’m constantly educating my guests on proper protection and product to use on their locks to better the integrity of their hair! My go-to’s are:

I’m obsessed with treatments! I can literally feel the fabric of someone's hair change instantly when using them."

"Just a little dusting off of your ends at least every 6-8 weeks! It seems counter intuitive, but your hair will grow longer when the dead ends don’t have a chance of breaking and splitting up the hair shaft."

Use a dry shampoo to get you between washes!

"It’s so important that we protect the integrity of our hair. We can do this by limiting the amount of heat we use on a daily or even weekly basis. If you find yourself using heat, it is imperative that you use a heat protectant, such as Kerastase Thermique, before any type of iron touches your hair.

To avoid heat for wavy/curly hair, try using, Kerastase Oleo Curl: After shower, while hair is super saturated, brush with wet brush, apply product, take a towel and towel blot the hair, let air dry. Using a curling iron to hit a few pieces is okay too.

"Think of it as an anti-aging product for your extensions. Slip Pillowcase is the best on the market."

It's important to use a brush that is specifically designed for Extensions. Bombshell Extension Brush has been specifically designed with bristles that maintain the integrity of your hair and extensions. Some brushes may have bristles that are too hard or too rough and can damage the bonds, wefts, and points of attachments to your natural hair.

Our hair extension brush has been made provide the best hair brushing experiencing for your hair and bonds.

Let us know if you try any of these tips or what others you've found that have given you beautiful hair!

We caught up with one of your Bombshell Stylists, Beth Conlin Hair, based in Portland, OR, for a little round-up of her favorite ways to style hair for the holidays!

Beth loves to focus on an 'effortless' look in coloring and styling her clients. She's sharing all her tips for these Holiday styles that make you look like you were done-up by the pro herself!

For Olivia’s glam look, I took one inch sections and curled the hair in the same direction all the way around. I set the curls with working spray and let cool. Working spray is a must for combing out curls so that you can still brush through the hair! Brush out the curls with a boar bristle brush and shape into place. Once I had the shape I wanted, I finished off with a shine spray. Shine spray is key for that glossy finish! PRODUCTS USED: Oribe Superfine Working Spray OR R+Co Outer Space Working Spray OR 7 seconds Glossing Spray Mason Pearson Junior Brush Oribe Shine Spray

On Nicole’s hair, I really wanted to create a deep retro style wave around her face. I gave her a deep side part on the opposite side than she normally parts on for extra volume on the top. I started at her part, using a 1” curling iron and curled the sides holding the barrel parallel to her part. In the back, I curled everything away from the face holding the curling iron vertical. Using the teasing comb, I brushed out the curls and shaped them into place using working spray and shine spray. PRODUCTS USED: Oribe Superfine Working Spray OR R+Co Outer Space Working Spray OR 7 seconds Glossing Spray Mason Pearson Junior Brush Oribe Shine Spray

Babyliss Pro 1"

HOW TO GET THIS LOOK: For a messier look, softly tease pieces here and there from the ends up to make it fluffy. Use a dry texture spray to finish off. My favorite is Oribe Dry Texture Spray. If you really want to keep things big and messy, use a few puffs of volumizing powder to keep the hair in place. I really love Unite Expanda Dust!

Oribe Dry Texture Spray

Unite Expanda Dust

I love adding in hair accessories on short hair to dress up the look! These pins are from Kitsch.

HOW TO GET THIS LOOK: After curling the hair, create a low pony. Separate the hair into 2 sections. Wrap one section around forming a bun. Wrap the other section around the previous one going the opposite direction. Secure with Bobby pins. Spray with Oribe Dry Texture Spray. Loosen pieces to make it fuller. Option 2: I added this pretty pink ribbon around the bun from Free People.

Oribe Dry Texture Spray

HOW TO GET THIS LOOK: Try being creative with pin placement! It can really make the look unique on short hair!

Thanks again to Beth for sharing her insight on how to get these beautiful looks!

We hope you all had the best Christmas holiday and can use some of these ideas from Beth for your New Year's look and remaining holiday parties!

-How did you get started in the Hair industry?

I always knew I wanted to do hair. There was never another career that sounded as fulfilling as being a stylist. Growing up, my American Girl doll got frequent hair cuts, which resulted in my mom caving in to buy me mannequin heads!

-What are your 3 must-have hair products?

Kenra Dry Volume Burst

Unite 7 Second Miracle Leave-In

IGK First Class Dry Shampoo

-If you could have dinner with one person living or deceased, who

would it be?

My grandma Jane. I never got to meet her, she passed before my siblings and I were born. I’d give a lot to be able to sit down and chat with her over a glass of wine.

-What’s your current favorite hair trend?

Lived-in hair looks win every time for me! Babylights with a good shadow have my heart, Throw in some tousled beach waves with it and I’m sold!

-If you could style one celebrity's hair, who would it be?

Duh... Jennifer Anniston. Who wouldn’t want to get there hands on Rachel Green’s hair!

-Describe a typical day-in-your life?

My typical day starts with FaceTiming my nieces on their way to school while I’m getting ready in the morning, then head to the salon for the day, then I hobble my way to the car in whatever poor (but cute) choice of shoes I’ve worn that day, get home to my Weimaraner pup, binge watch something Netflix, and do it all again the next day!

-What’s the one habit everyone can do to get better/healthier hair?

Turn the heat down on styling tools, no everyday washing (Dry Shampoo), and treat your hair with a good conditioning mask every once in a while!

-Do you have an inspiring female role models or mentors?

My boss, Melanie Whitbeck, is definitely a role model to me in this industry. And not because she is my boss, but because of her character and willingness to learn behind the chair. We’ve been through a lot of stuff over the past few years, and she has remained a constant mentor, friend, and inspiration. Plus, she builds a kick ass salon!

-Do you have any tips for artists starting out in the industry?

Some tips for anyone entering the industry would be letting yourself remain open to constructive criticism at any stage in the game. The wonderful thing about the industry itself is that you can always learn something no matter how many years in you are. Be open to suggestions, and don’t ever think you’re above your peers. If you aren’t busy, help that other stylist blow dry. We are never too good to help.

-What do you do to feel more inspired?

Instagram is always a big inspiration to me. It amazes me how I can connect with a stylist in Australia and ask them how they did something. Instagram is a free tool and I suggest every stylist use it!

-What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve received would probably be to never be afraid to fail or mess up. The only thing you can do when something like that happens is to recognize it and learn from it then move on!

-What’s been your proudest moment in the industry?

I don’t think I’ve had a “proudest moment” yet. I’ve had a lot of exciting and rewarding times like getting regramed on a hair page of some sort, but I don’t think I have had the honor of a proudest moment yet!

-What would be your career path in another life?

I’ve always imagined being a flight attendant would be so fun! I think In another life I’d do that.

-What is your favorite Bombshell Extension Co product?

The Beaded Wefts and Tape-Ins. I love the results they give.

-How did you get started in the Hair industry?

At the age of 12, when I was babysitting my cousins. I would perform hair & makeup services on them and created my “first” salon, Lucky Monkey. I fell in love with making women feel beautiful and giving them confidence. My hair path has been incredible. I've worked in salons from the age of 16, managing, directing, consulting, & honing my skills as a makeup artist. I opened my salon, Haus of Heir, at 25 years old and went to cosmetology school at 28! I yearned to be behind the chair and couldn’t have done it without the support of my team. I didn’t choose this industry. This industry chose me!

Oribe’s Featherbalm, Kerastase’ L’incroyable, & Shu Uemura’s Ample Angora

It’s Britney, Bitch! When I think of my ultimate Bombshell… this is who it is! I’m obsessed with lived-in, sexy, long, blonde hair!

-What’s the one habit everyone can do to get better/healthier hair?

Heat & Environmental Protection! I’m constantly educating my guests on proper protection and product to use on their locks to better the integrity of their hair! -Do you have an inspiring female role models or mentors?

Every woman that I encounter in my life is an inspiration to me. HE for SHE! I can’t express the importance of female empowerment and equality enough! Of course, I have to shout out the most amazing woman to me… Christine Kepford (my mom).

-Do you have any tips for artists starting out in the industry?

HUSTLE! There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not trying to evolve from who I was yesterday. It’s a very saturated industry & you have to be willing to work to gain the momentum that is desired. It takes time, but the journey is worth it.

-What do you do to feel more inspired?

Travel. I love having my home-base in Iowa. I feel so fortunate that I’m able to travel the world and bring back inspiration back to my community. Every chance I have to send or take someone from my team with me is a gift. I see inspiration everyday! You have to look beyond what is in front of you to truly ‘see’ what is there.

-What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

“Don’t sweat the small stuff, & remember it’s all small” - Jeff Kepford (my father)

-What’s been your proudest moment in the industry?

Being awarded the scholarship for Beauty Changes Lives. This industry is so important to people in so many ways. For them to hear my story and see belief in what I believe in means the absolute world to me. I’m here to create change.

-What would be your career path in another life?

Filming Music Videos & Designing Concert Tours. Music is a massive part of my being and when seeing a show, I’m not only there to see the artist. I love the theatrics, lighting, dancers, stage transitions, & energy!

-What is your favorite Bombshell Extension Co product?

BEADED WEFT EXTENSIONS! I’ve been exposed to many extension systems, and Bombshell has elevated the bar! My guests see an extreme difference in quality and longevity. I have to thank Gela @hairby_gela so much for all of the information she’s given me through my certification. I’m truly grateful for the level of commitment from her & Bombshell!
