-How did you get started in the Hair industry?
I’ve always been obsessed with all things beauty since I was little! I did dance and cheerleading, and was always coming up with different hair styles for competitions.
My friends always had me style their hair for prom. I actually started going to beauty school while I was a junior in high school! I was in beauty school, high school, working at a photography studio doing hair and makeup, as well as being a receptionist at a salon. I did this all at the same time!
-What are your 3 must-have hair products?
UNITE 7 seconds leavin-in spray, ORIBE après beach spray, and ORIBE dry texture spray.
-If you could have dinner with one person living or deceased, whom would it be?
My great aunt, she was a hair stylist in Hollywood in the 1920s! I bet she had some good stories!
-What’s your current favorite hair trend?
Shaggy texture and lived-in hair. I’m also loving hair accessories with scarves and barrettes!
-If you could style one celebrity’s hair, who would it be?
Someone funny…Kristin Wiig or Amy Schumer. That would be a great time!
-Describe a typical day-in-your life?
Drink coffee. Do hair. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. LITERALLY.
-What’s the one habit everyone can do to get better/healthier hair?
Get baby trims! Just a little dusting off of your ends at least every 6-8 weeks! It seems counter intuitive, but your hair will grow longer when the dead ends don’t have a chance of breaking and splitting up the hair shaft.
-Do you have an inspiring female role models or mentors?
My career behind the chair completely took off when I took my first class from Riawna Capri and Nikki Lee from 901 Salon, 3 years ago. I love their simple, laid back approach to that effortless, perfectly messed up hair.
-Do you have any tips for artists starting out in the industry?
Never stop learning! Be open-minded to new trends and techniques. Always be KIND. Kindness and Integrity go a long way with clients, as well as your peers!
-What do you do to feel more inspired?
I am constantly stalking my favorite hair artists on Instagram and looking for any new education I can get. I love going to classes and learning from other stylists. I feel like there is something you can learn from everyone!
-What’s been your proudest moment in the industry?
Going out on my own and having my own studio. I was in a rut- feeling uninspired. I took a risk by moving far enough away to lose 60% of my clientele and create my own independent studio space. I’ve never been so busy behind the chair until I created my own space, brand, and style that was more true to who I was as a stylist! I was busy in such a short period of time!
-What would be your career path in another life?
I’ve always thought that if I had another career path I would be a nurse. It is so rewarding being able to comfort people and make them feel good. This is also one of the reasons I love being a hairstylist!
-What is your favorite Bombshell Extensions Co product?
Wefts! I love the beaded weft method!
